Handwoven African Market Basket
Our market baskets are used traditionally in Togo, West Africa to carry produce to and from markets or farms. Members of Alaffia basket cooperatives receive fair wages and health care for their families in return for indigenous skills and knowledge. This exchange empowers West African communities and preserves cultural heritage.
Care and Use: To reshape your basket, spray lightly with water, shape and air dry thoroughly. Avoid direct light for best color retention.
*Due to each basket’s one-of-a-kind characteristics, as well as the creative decision-making left to each weaver, the basket you receive may vary in color and pattern from the basket shown.

These baskets are beautiful, sturdy and endlessly useful. Works of art that I gladly use to replace plastic bags.
